Abla runs a bakery from her home in Casablanca where she lives alone with her 8-year-old daughter Warda. Their routine is interrupted one day by a knock on the door. It is Samia, a young pregnant woman looking for a job and a roof and Abla is far from imagining that her life will change forever.
Amid kneaded dough, sweet curls of pastry, and clouds of flour, two women share the precious bond of companionship in an otherwise hard and patriarchal world. Nisrine Arradi and Lubna Azabal (Incendies) shine in this warm, naturalistic two-hander, Moroccan director Maryam Touzani’s radiant debut.
