Since 1989, multinational mining companies have been coming to Turkey to extract gold using the cyanide filtration method. Eurogold is one of these companies and its mines are in Bergama. Bergama residents and the people of surrounding villages began to oppose the project.
Spanning almost a decade, Ethem Özgüven and Petra Holzer’s compelling documentary bears witness to the wave of fierce protests that ripples throughout Turkey against mining companies. A collaborative effort of activist filmmaking regarding a controversial topic that is all too relevant today.
