The Indian painter, Velu Viswanadhan, returns to the various locations in India where he filmed ‘The Five Elements’, his documentary series that spanned three decades. Confronting today’s India, Viswanadhan captures the changes which have taken place in a country that mixes modernity with tradition.
In a similar style to Robert Gardner’s Forest of Bliss, Velu Viswanadhan offers a portrait of modern India in the purest style of ethnographic cinema: its people, rituals, streets, and atmosphere. Without intervention beyond the camera, its silent testimony transports us from one place to another.
