Synopsis

Iranian women seeking divorce meet with strong opposition. Often, they stand by helplessly as their husbands are supported by the court and get custody of the children, even if they abuse them. This documentary follows three lawsuits in Teheran, witnessing women as they fight to achieve their goal.

MUBI's take

Iranian divorce law went under the spotlight with the arthouse hit A Separation, but truth is even stranger than fiction. Kim Longinotto & Ziba Mir-Hosseini’s BAFTA-winning doc is a surprising take on religious law, avoiding stereotypes to cast an intimate look at a culture and the people inside it.
