A young Greek woman is sent to Istanbul by her uncle to find a rare engine part for their boat. There she meets Avril, 19, who came from France to volunteer with refugees, ran out of money, and knows no one in Turkey. Together the free-spirited young women leave on a journey to Mytilene.
Following the adventurous travels of its free-spirited central character, Djam takes a light-hearted look at the inherent kindness and joy in the world. An uplifting ode to female bonding that gets a rich texture from its exploration of the traditional form of Greek music called “Rebetiko.”
