Paul is a teenager when the Paris underground scene is taken over by house music. Soon he has formed the DJ-duo Cheers, while at the same time another group, Daft Punk, becomes famous. We follow them and their lifestyle of sex, drugs and endless beats—until reality finally catches up with them.
Inspired by her brother’s DJ past, Hansen-Løve’s coming-of-age drama is blisteringly affecting, subsumed by youthful fragility and regrets. With the recent Daft Punk breakup, the film’s time capsule of 1990s French club culture gains a new bittersweet dimension for nostalgic fans of the era.
