Photographed on location in Harlem and various locations throughout Ethiopia, Forged Ways shifts between the first person account of a filmmaker, the third person experience of a man navigating the streets of Harlem, and day-to-day life in the cities and villages of Ethiopia.
Ephraim Asili’s first work shot on 16mm film, Forged Ways initiates his melodic “Diaspora Suite.” Criss-crossing between New York’s Harlem and Ethiopia, Forged Ways also hops between reality and fiction, as it does music and field recordings, examining the world through many different lenses.
