Gabrielle is a glowing young woman with Williams syndrome, a genetic disorder marked by cognitive underdevelopment and advanced musical skills. She met her love Martin at the leisure center, but because they are different, people won’t allow them to love each other as they wish to.
Filmed in a special home for mentally challenged individuals, and acted mainly by the residents of that given home, Gabrielle is a superb drama that tenderly portrays a taboo subject: the romantic lives of people with mental handicaps. Winner of the audience award at the Locarno Film Festival.
