In a small remote town, a 21-year-old man dies in what seems like a car accident. From then on, amid the winter snow, a disturbing temper slowly sinks on the local inhabitants. While the victim’s family is immersed in grief and time loses all meaning, strange figures start emerging from the fog.
Never one to make the same movie twice, director Denis Côté surprised us with this spectral ensemble drama of rural small town Quebec, shot on 16mm. By turns eerie and somber—and not without dashes of droll humor—Côté conjures an isolated community’s uncertainty as the past comes back to haunt them.
