Teenage Lara dreams of becoming a ballerina. She’s just relocated city to attend a top ballet school and, as she’s in the early stages of gender transition, has newly enrolled in the girls’ class. While pushing herself to keep up with the other girls, Lara also struggles with her hormone therapy.
Inspired by a true story, the debut feature from director Lukas Dhont follows the physical and emotional hurdles of a young, ambitious ballet dancer. Winner of the Camera d’Or, this gripping drama sparked debate after its Cannes premiere, but remains a visceral portrait of growing up trans.
