Synopsis

Springtime in Yorkshire: isolated young sheep farmer Johnny Saxby numbs his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of a Romanian migrant worker, employed for the lambing season, ignites an intense relationship that sets Johnny on a new path.

MUBI's take

Evoking the verdant loneliness of Brokeback Mountain, Francis Lee’s exceptional debut is an intimate queer love story that movingly softens the harsh edges of rural farm life. Tempestuous and carnal, the sizzling chemistry between Josh O’Connor and Alec Secareanu sets fire to societal prejudices.
