Synopsis

Johnny works in isolation on his family’s farm in Yorkshire. He numbs his loneliness with binge drinking and casual sex, until the arrival of Gheorghe, a Romanian migrant worker, employed for the lambing season. Johnny suddenly finds himself having to deal with emotions he has never felt before.

MUBI's take

Evoking the verdant loneliness of Brokeback Mountain, Francis Lee’s exceptional debut is an intimate queer love story that movingly softens the harsh edges of rural farm life. Tempestuous and carnal, the sizzling chemistry between Josh O’Connor and Alec Secareanu sets fire to societal prejudices.
