Synopsis

Daniel Blake, 59, has worked as a joiner most of his life. But after a heart attack leaves him unable to work and the state welfare system fails him, he must fight for his dignity, leading a crusade for compassion that will transform the lives of a struggling single mother and her two children.

MUBI's take

A powerful, polemical social drama from Ken Loach, this eye-opening account of living in austerity—and within social security and welfare systems—proves an angry, urgent indictment of the United Kingdom’s Conservative politicians. Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
