Adam, a Catholic priest, lives in a Polish village, where he works with teenagers with behavioural problems. He knows that his embrace of the priesthood has been a flight from his own homosexuality. When he meets the strange and taciturn Łukasz, Adam’s self-imposed abstinence becomes a heavy burden.
Director Małgorzata Szumowska (Elles) crafts this otherwordly study of homosexuality, repressed desire, and the fragile nature of identity in modern-day Poland. At once a haunting and cleverly written drama, the film won the Berlinale’s prestigious Teddy Award for Best Feature Film on LGBT topics.
