Synopsis

In the East, the countries that have gained their independence question their identities. Transnistria has become a region of internal displacement. The United Nations uses this term to refer to people who live in situations of internal displacement as a result of conflicts or natural disasters.

French filmmaker and photojournalist Jean-Christophe Couet has long been fascinated by the transitional states in the Eastern Bloc. This piano-scored short film brings his haunting, monochrome photographs to animated life, prefiguring Abbas Kiarostami’s conceptually similar masterwork 24 Frames.
