Fellini, once again, finds himself in the magical enclosure of his home studio of Cinecittà. A Japanese TV crew is there to make a documentary about the maestro’s work. As his memories and fantasies unfurl, he sees himself again as a young and shy journalist dazzled by the spectacle of moviemaking.
Playing himself–or perhaps a version of himself–Marcello Mastroianni lends a bittersweet taste of nostalgia to Federico Fellini’s wondrous penultimate film. Blurring the line between reality and make-believe, Intervista is a window into Fellini’s cinematic domain, rich in irony and visual ingenuity.
