The village artist Jangarh Singh Shyam left home and became a well-known contemporary painter. He committed suicide in 2001. Through his art, places and stories, the filmmaker explores the traces he left on his path.
An early precursor to his book on the titular Gond artist, Amit Dutta’s Jangarh Film Ek creates a fascinating mosaic using interviews, animation, and artworks by Jangarh himself. This film is a meditation on tribal regions at the cusp of modernization as much as the artist’s intriguing life.
