Synopsis

Three days in the life of a woman. Jeanne is a lonely, widowed housewife who lives with her teenage son, and who prostitutes herself at home in order to make ends meet. The rhythm and the rites of her every day are immutable until something changes. Thus, her routine slowly begins to unravel.

MUBI's take

Holding its viewer to a slow, steady pace, Chantal Akerman’s masterful study of a multifaceted woman—a mother and a sex worker—is a film of powerful subtlety, a repetition of domestic scenes that invents a radical, revolutionary new visual language. A legendary film, launched at the 1975 Quinzaine.
