An actor plays a teacher holding Italian classes. The classes are attended by a group of migrants, playing themselves, needing to learn Italian to get their papers, become integrated, and make a living in their new home. During the shooting, however, reality takes over.
Classroom lessons and narrative cinema are interrupted by reality in this hybrid film, twisting the contours of documentary and fiction. Focusing on immigrants taking a language course in contemporary Italy, director Daniele Gaglianone examines themes of democracy, communication, and belonging.
