Honing a quiet strength, Lata, a 23 year old domestic worker, navigates her way through an upper class home in South Mumbai. Doors consistently open and close, giving Lata selective access to the various contending realities that occupy this space.
Charmingly understated, this stylishly sparse debut by director Alisha Tejpal homes in on the day-to-day routines and interactions of a domestic worker in Mumbai. Through a series of long observational takes, Lata soon morphs into a commentary on the ubiquitous underlying hierarchies of class.
