Tommaso is the youngest son and soon-to-be partner of an Italian pasta magnate. However, he is gay and wants to be a writer, not a businessman. Wanting to unveil this to his family, his plans are thwarted by his brother and Tommaso gets stuck on the path that he was desperately trying to avoid.
Transplanted from native Turkey to Italy, director Ferzan Ozpetek (Facing Windows) flourished there and Loose Cannons is a prime example of his talents: an appreciative understanding of cultural and family dynamics, and attractive storytelling that moves naturally from comedy to drama.
