Synopsis

Fifteen years after the genocide, Rwandese teen Munyurangabo and his friend Sangwa take off on a trip to the countryside and into the past. Munyurangabo wants to avenge his parents who were victims of the genocide in their village, and Sangwa wants to go back to the place he left behind, ravaged.

MUBI's take

Before the Oscar®-winning success of Minari, Lee Isaac Chung headed to East Africa for Munyurangabo, a thrilling coming-of-age tale of inter-tribal friendship. The first feature made in Kinyarwanda—the official language of Rwanda—this beautiful, multiple-award winner is a one-of-a-kind triumph.
