Filmmaker and visual artist Cao Guimarães presents a portrait of his wife’s motherhood and the birth of their son Otto. With images captured in Montevideo, Istanbul, and Belo Horizonte, where the couple lives, the director creates a visual diary that follows each stage of his wife’s pregnancy.
Arguably Cao Guimarães’ most personal film, this documentary is at once a visual essay, a love letter, and a cinematic diary, chronicling the pregnancy of his wife and the birth of his son. Like the recurring water imagery, mythology and daily events coalesce into a meditation on the tides of life.
