The film shows 30 buildings and ensembles by the French architects and construction engineers Auguste and Gustave Perret. Working in parallel to the execution of numerous construction projects in France, the brothers were also building under conditions of colonialism in North Africa.
This meditative essay film from prolific documentarian Heinz Emigholz investigates the relationship between Perret’s modernist structures and the volatile environments in which they were created. Juxtaposing images from twin locales, Emigholz draws out a biographical commentary from the work itself.
