Alvin and Lance spend the summer of 1988 in a deserted, fire-damaged forest, with the monotonous task of repainting the markings on a country road. The isolated landscape becomes a place of misadventure as the men find themselves at odds with each other and the women they left behind.
Director David Gordon Green (George Washington, All the Real Girls) brings a certain wit to this atypical buddy comedy—a film that, surprisingly and successfully, combines the intimacy of Green’s earlier, sensitive character studies with the filmmaker’s more recent foray into mainstream comedy.
