Rıza is a truck driver. When his truck breaks down, Rıza can’t work and his livelihood is threatened. Using every possible means, he desperately tries to drum up the money for the repairs. And this includes being prepared to commit a brutal crime.
The first film in Pirselimoğlu’s enigmatic yet evocative “Conscience and Death” trilogy, Riza is a dark descent into the mind of a working-class man trapped in the outskirts of Istanbul. With an uncannily mysterious atmosphere, the Turkish auteur ingeniously captures the impasse of the urban poor.
