An undergraduate, Wati, is dating a famous rock star called Awie. They were childhood sweethearts with their parents’ blessings. Their relationship was well accepted except for one person, Azman – Wati’s brother. Then Ziana, a nightclub singer, falls for Awie and tries to tempt him away.
One of Yusof Haslam’s most enduring classics, Sembilu perfectly captures the zeitgeist and teenage angst of the ’90s. At the center of this urban melodrama is Awie, the quintessential antihero who must overcome social prejudice and injustice to win the love of his life.
