In 1975, Seyolo Zantoko, a graduate doctor from Kinshasa, is offered work in a rural French village. Upon arriving there, he and his family become disillusioned. The villagers are afraid; they have never seen African people before. Still, Seyolo is determined to succeed and win the villagers’ trust.
Based on the life of Seyolo Zantoko, a Congolese man who became a local doctor in a French village, The African Doctor tells the true story of a difficult integration. Touching and amusing in equal measures, the film exposes the racism of 1970s France while witnessing a move towards tolerance.
