Mohamed runs the grocery store in Mafrouza. He also gives the Friday sermon in the neighborhood mosque. However, during the festivities leading up to Eid, the mosque is seized by fundamentalists. Mohamed doesn’t agree and keeps quiet about his intentions, but the last words have yet to be spoken.
Emmanuelle Demoris bids farewell to the alleys of Mafrouza and its residents. Local politics and the community’s relationship to its public and private spaces come into focus, as this singularly compassionate, collaborative epic of truth and fiction, storytelling and representation draws to a close.
