Synopsis

Due to a stammer, Prince Albert of York seeks out Lionel Logue, an Australian speech therapist. When his brother suddenly abdicates the throne and he becomes King George VI, Logue has to help him make his first wartime radio broadcast: Britain’s declaration of war on Germany in 1939.

MUBI's take

While Hitler sent a perilous jolt of excitement through crowds at rallies, King George VI had a stutter better suited to a pre-radio era. Colin Firth won the Oscar® for his brilliant performance as the wartime ruler—and who better than the beloved actor to star as an awkward man of British resolve!
