In 1950s Idaho, 8-year-old Seth and his friends play a prank on a widow named Dolphin Blue. When his friends start disappearing, Seth becomes convinced she is a vampire. When his brother returns home and takes a liking to Dolphin, Seth feels it’s up to him to save his brother from his friends’ fate.
This under-known British gem, set in the U.S., features an early lead role from Viggo Mortensen. One of the few films from multihyphenate poet-playwright-novelist-musician Philip Ridley, it’s a dark and scintillating take on vampirism, stylishly shot by Mike Leigh’s cinematographer Dick Pope.
