Due to the unannounced demolition of a pedestrian overpass in Taipei, a middle-aged woman has to struggle across the busy road with her heavy suitcase. Around the same spot, a girl is looking for a street vendor. But she can’t find him since the Skywalk is gone and she ends up loosing her way.
Chronicling characters who previously appeared in What Time Is It There?, and recur again in The Wayward Cloud, Taiwan’s Tsai Ming-liang crafts this practically perfect short film—a series of vignettes constructed around a central absence. A film full of longing, nostalgic for Taipei’s past.
