Synopsis

In 1929 in the outback of the Northern Territory, Australia, Aboriginal stockman Sam kills white station owner Harry March in self defense. Pursued across the outback, him and his wife Lizzie go on the run through the glorious but harsh desert country.

MUBI's take

Landscape is everything in this magnificent outback western from Warwick Thornton. A tale of fractured national identity set amid the vast plains of Australia’s Northern Territories, Sweet Country stars Sam Neill in a viciously unsentimental chase movie of epic sweep and explosive racial tensions.
