Following a stint in jail, Adam, a former neo-Nazi, is temporarily assigned to live in a remote church. The community is led by Ivan, an eternally optimistic priest who immediately gets under Adam’s skin. Adam takes it upon himself to give the clergyman a crash course in the harsh realities of life.
The Danes have a taste for bizarro dark comedy—just witness Lars von Trier, or Terribly Happy, or this truly offbeat festival gem. Starring Mads Mikkelsen, Adam’s Apples combines neo-Nazis, the Book of Job, Puritan guilt, kleptomania, and apple pie into an unpredictable pitch-dark treat.
