In 1955, young Magnum photographer Dennis Stock is hired by Life Magazine to photograph the rising Hollywood star James Dean during one of his movie shoots. As the pair travels from Los Angeles to New York City and Indiana, a close bond develops between them, just weeks before Dean’s untimely death.
As in his debut Control, photographer-turned-director Anton Corbijn emphasizes mood over drama in this brooding biopic of Life photographer Dennis Stock. A doe-eyed Dane DeHaan (playing James Dean!) and Robert Pattinson give dreamy performances in this lush period look at the challenges of fame.
