Paul prepares to leave Tajikistan and reflects on his life. His childhood in Roubaix, a student trip to the USSR, led him to offer his identity to a young Russian. Finally, he remembers university life and shifting his circle of friends. Most of all, he remembers Esther, the love of his life.
Arnaud Desplechin directs Mathieu Amalric in this whirlwind melodrama, a sequel of sorts to the director’s epic My Sex Life…or How I Got Into an Argument. Subtly evoking the free-wheeling nature of youth, My Golden Days is a personal, emotionally resonant portrait of adolescence.
