In 1930s Manchuria, an encounter on a train triggers an epic crusade for a treasure map. Do-won, `the good’, is a bounty hunter, out to track down Chang-yee, `the bad’, a hitman attempting to pinch the map from a military official. However, the ruthless Tae-goo snaffles the map for himself.
We no longer look towards America for great genre films, but to South Korea, where directors like Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan-wook have been turning conventions on their heads. Kim Jee-woon (A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life) is one of the best there and this is his most wild, fun movie.
