On his way through the woods to his marriage, Fadinard’s horse eats the hat of a married lady spending here a few moments with her lover. Fadinard has to find the very same rare hat to avoid her dishonor. This will greatly disturb his own marriage.
René Clair (Le Million) is one of cinema’s great fantasists, a craftsmen of impossibly light capers, fables, and flings whose career took him from France to Hollywood and back. The Italian Straw Hat was his breakthrough, and remains one of the wittiest, most elegant silent comedies.
