Ryota returns to work, but even during the long-awaited filming of the commercial with Junji Takada, he cannot find his feet. He urges his subordinate, Sanada, “to find a sponsor for his father who would subsidize the hunt for the Kuna”.
Folklore and fantasy take on a prominent role in this episode, where different storylines are brought together by a mythical being named Kuna. With each character attributing a different meaning to the creature, this pseudo-legendary entity (invented by Kore-eda himself) becomes a catalyst for hope.
