A group of women from a southern Turkish village travel to the remote mountain villages to put on a performance of “King Lear.” In it they dispense with male actors and play all the roles themselves. On the road, their lives merge into the world of King Lear and become bound up with the play.
Fourteen years after making The Play, the Turkish director Pelin Esmer returns to the struggles of the peasant women from Arslanköy as they continue to make theater. In Queen Lear, we become witness to their progress both in art and in life.
