Artist Santos de la Torre lives isolated in his own country though a mural of his is displayed at Paris’ Louvre. The film follows him on his pilgrimage to sacred places, such as Wirikuta, “the land of peyote”, where he asks the gods to let him make a new mural showing the history of his people.
Nicolás Echevarría’s award-winning documentary follows artist Santos de la Torre from the Huichol people of Mexico. With sensitive camerawork, this subtly political film observes de la Torre’s art, religious beliefs, and rituals, but also points to the discrimination faced by Indigenous communities.
