Paulistas and Soledade are two rural regions located in the state of Goiás. In the early ‘90s, the rural exodus was intensified with the expansion of monoculture farming. Since 2014, no more young people live around the area. It’s July, vacation time. Time when the children visit their parents.
Although imbued with the eerie atmosphere and barren landscapes of a western, and the culminating tension of a thriller, Paulistas remains a documentary—acutely crafted and humanely resonant. A surprising and absorbing portrait of a place: two deserted rural regions of Brazil, devoid of their youth.
